CANON CEE ‘BEYOND THE FRAME’ VIDEO COMPETITION TERMS & CONDITIONS

1. PROMOTER AND PARTICIPANTS

1.1. The Promoter is Canon CEE GmbH and registered at Am Europlatz 2, 1120 Vienna, AUSTRIA (“Canon”). Any company, any subsidiary, partnership or other entity which from time to time is controlled by or is under common control of Canon hereinafter will be referred to as “Canon Affiliate” and, Canon and Canon Affiliate together will be referred to as "Canon Group".

1.2. All entrants (“Participants”) must be amateur content creators or videographers, who are residents of: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania, Israel, Greece, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Armenia, aged 18 or over.

1.3. Professional videographers or those earning more than 20% of their annual income from videography and employees of Canon Group, their families, agents, and other parties directly involved with this competition and the sponsorship are not eligible to enter.

1.4 By entering this competition, all Participants are deemed to have agreed to be bound by these terms and conditions (“Terms and Conditions”) unless notified otherwise in writing.

2. THE COMPETITION

2.1. Entry Period: Enter between 00:01 CET on 1st of May 2025 and 23:59 CET on 30th of June 2025 inclusive.

2.2. The Competition consists of three (3) video competition categories (each a “Category”) within the Competition that may be entered into as follows:
a) Short form storytelling
b) Traditional content remix

i) visit canon.xx/get-involved/competition/beyond-the-frame/ to complete the online form to provide your details (name, email address, country of residence); then
ii) each Participant may enter the competition by submitting a maximum of one (1) audio visual film entry per Category (each referred to as an “Entry”). This Entry may be submitted into one (1), two (2), or all three (3) competition Categories. Once an Entry has been submitted, the Participant is not permitted to submit any additional Entries, whether with a different video or by entering a different category in a separate submission. Multiple Entries by the same Participant, whether under the same or different categories, are strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification.
iii) a maximum of three (3) Entries, one per Category, are permitted per person during the Entry Period. Each Entry per category must be materially different in the final opinion of Canon, the same Entry cannot be submitted for multiple Categories. Participant may be shortlisted in multiple Categories but can only win in one Category regardless of the number of Categories they submit an Entry for.
iv) each Entry must meet the criteria listed below in Clause 3 to be entered into the competition.

2.4. No purchase is necessary. It is free to enter this Competition and Entries do not have to be taken on a Canon device.

2.5. Internet access and a valid email address are required to enter.

2.6. Incomplete, invalid or inappropriate Entries, or Entries received after the closing date on the 30th of June 2025 at CET 23:59 will not be eligible for publication or any Prize.

2.7. By submitting an entry, each Participant hereby grants to Canon Group a non-revocable, worldwide, royalty-free and free of charge, sublicensable license to publish, republish, display and use their video for all purposes connected with this competition, including but not limited to display on Canon Group websites, Canon Group social media accounts and/or channels, any other websites of Canon Group or its agents/contractors, and in marketing materials (including at exhibitions) relating to this competition for up to one year after the competition ends. Each Participant also grants Canon Group and its agents/contractors the right to moderate, modify or remove any video if it is deemed unsuitable, in whole or in part, for display on the competition website or in any materials relating to the competition. Participants of the competition also hereby agree to being identified and/or attributed as the videographer or creator of the video subject to their Entry.

3. ENTRY CRITERIA

3.1. Entries submitted to the Competition must fall into one of the applicable Categories.

3.2 The Entry submitted in any of the Categories must reflect the respective category's specific requirements, as set forth below:

a) Short Form Storytelling: Entries must consist of a short form storytelling video with a duration of no less than fifteen (15) seconds and no more than thirty (30) seconds.
b) Traditional Content Remix: Entries must reinterpret traditional video content, including but not limited to documentary films, commercials, or wedding videos, in a fresh, creative, and shareable manner. Such Entries must have a duration of no less than one (1) minute and no more than three (3) minutes.
c) Cinematic Masterpiece: Entries must consist of an original film narrative – a visually stunning, emotionally powerful, and deeply engaging short film – with a duration of no less than two (2) minutes and no more than five (5) minutes.

All Entries must reflect the following criteria:

a) Cinematography: The quality and execution of lighting, camera movement, and overall visual composition.
b) Post-Production: The extent to which editing, color correction, and grading enhance the visual and auditory impact of the Entry.
c) Storytelling: The creativity, subject matter, and emotional engagement of the Entry, including but not limited to its ability to amuse, evoke emotion, or provoke thought.

The judging panel shall consist of the three (3) judges publicly identified by Canon on its official landing page and other official Canon communication channels (“Judging Panel”). The Judging Panel reserves the sole discretion to determine whether an Entry satisfies the above requirements and aligns with the intended category. Failure to comply with these specifications may result in disqualification.

3.3. Each Entry should be a minimum of fifteen (15) seconds and maximum of five (5) minutes in length with a maximum file size of 150mb and submitted in MP4 file format. Participants must not upload videos which have previously won an award or prize via a promotion run by Canon or any other entity.

3.4. Each Entry must contain a minimum of fifty percent (50%) of live action footage.

4. COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS

4.1. The video must be original and taken by the Participant.

4.2. The video submitted by the Participant must not contain:
a) recognizable persons, unless the Participant can demonstrate that such persons have granted all the necessary permissions in writing for the video to be submitted, used and published by Canon Group under Clause 2.7 of these Terms and Conditions (please note, it is the responsibility of the Participant to ensure that the relevant permission has been sought and model release forms have been satisfactorily completed); or
b) works of art unless the Participant can demonstrate that the Participant has been granted a license to have such works of art used and published by Canon Group under Clause 2.7 of these Terms and Conditions or
c) logos or brand names unless the Participant can demonstrate that the Participant has been granted a license to have such logos or brand names used and published by Canon Group under Clause 2.7 of these Terms and Conditions; or
d) scenes which are offensive, obscene, sexual, derogatory, defamatory, violent, abusive, harassing, threatening, objectionable with respect to race, related to religion, origin or gender, or which could reflect negatively upon the name, reputation or goodwill of Canon Group or any brand partner, or which are otherwise unsuitable for publication; or
e) anything that may infringe the rights of any third party, including intellectual property, moral or privacy rights, or refer to any third-party brand or reference any third-party names, logos and/or trademarks; or
f) any watermark, copyright notice or any other information which may identify the Participant (note, a copyright notice embedded in the metadata of the video is permissible). For the judging process to remain as fair as possible, the judging panel is not permitted to see the names of the Participants when judging. Any video entered that contains a Participant’s name, any watermark, copyright notice or any other information which may identify the Participant, will be disqualified and will not be presented to the judging panel.

4.3. Participant has not submitted videos or content that have been created, generated, edited, composited or manipulated using any software, tools or technology incorporating any form of artificial intelligence. This includes (but is not limited to) any use of generative artificial intelligence, including generative fill functionality. However, the use of features which are an inherent part of the production specification of cameras (eg: autofocus and image processing) will not result in automatic disqualification, as long as the camera is not suspected to have not been modified in any way. Participants may be asked to supply the RAW or equivalent unprocessed file of their submitted content, which will be analyzed for any use of artificial intelligence technology and may also be used for the assessment of other competition criteria (eg: compositing, excessive editing and manipulation) at the judges’ discretion. Failure to submit the requested RAW file before a stated deadline will result in disqualification.

4.4. Participant also agrees to be contacted by Canon for the purposes of administrating the competition or in the event that Canon Group wishes to discuss any other use of the video submitted to the competition.

5. WARRANTIES

5.1. By submitting its entry, the Participant warrants and represents that:
a) the Participant is the sole author of the video;
b) the Participant is the owner of the proprietary rights in the video;
c) the video and any element appearing in the video do not infringe any rights (including intellectual property, moral or privacy rights) of any third party;
d) in the case where a person or person’s image appears in the video, the Participant has obtained written permission from those people(s) for Canon Group to use their image(s) as described in these terms and conditions; and
e) in the case where the video has been taken in another country than in the Participant’s country of residence, the Participant has complied with the law applicable to such country, including but not limited to any intellectual property, moral, privacy and proprietary legal requirements.

5.2. Canon warrants that it shall act within the scope of the rights granted under and/or in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.

6. THE PRIZES

6.1. Finalists' Prizes: a) A total of four (4) finalists shall be selected in each category, with finalists ranking between second (2nd) and fifth (5th) place (each referred to as a “Finalist”). The total number of Finalists shortlisted across all categories shall be twelve (12).
b) Each Finalist in each respective category shall receive a voucher valued at two hundred euros (€200) for use toward the purchase of a camera.
c) The Vouchers shall be redeemable only at authorized partner stores designated by Canon.
d) Vouchers shall be valid for a period of one (1) month from the date of issuance. Expired vouchers shall not be accepted, extended, or replaced.

6.2 Category Winners' Prizes In addition to the four (4) Finalists selected in each respective category, one (1) winner shall be selected in each category (each referred to as a “Category Winner”), ranking in first (1st) place. Each Category Winner shall be awarded one (1) camera model, as specified below:
i) Short Form Storytelling Category – Canon EOS Powershot V1
ii) Traditional Content Remix Category – Canon EOS R50 V
iii) Cinematic Masterpiece Category – Canon EOS R6 Mark II The specific camera model awarded to each Category Winner shall be determined at the sole discretion of Canon and is not subject to negotiation or substitution.

6.3. Grand Prize
a) One (1) Grand Prize shall be awarded to one (1) Grand Winner of the competition. The Grand Winner shall be selected among the three (3) Category Winners at the sole discretion of Canon.
b) The Grand Prize consists of a fully covered trip to the Canon Vision event in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in September 2025 (“Event”). The trip shall include:
a. Round-trip economy-class airfare from the Grand Winner’s country of residence to Amsterdam;
b. Accommodation and meals for the duration of the Event, as determined by Canon;
c. Event access and activities, as arranged by Canon.
c) The Grand Prize is non-transferable, non-exchangeable, and may not be redeemed for cash or any alternative equivalent.
d) Canon reserves the right to determine all travel arrangements, including but not limited to flight schedules, accommodation type, and other logistical details. The Grand Winner shall be responsible for complying with any travel documentation requirements, including but not limited to visas, passports, and health-related entry requirements.
e) If the Grand Winner is unable to attend the Event for any reason, the prize shall be forfeited and may, at the Canon’s sole discretion, be awarded to an alternate recipient or remain unallocated. No cash compensation or alternative prize shall be provided in lieu of attendance.
f) Canon shall not be liable for any costs, expenses, or losses incurred due to the Grand Winner’s inability to attend the Event, delays, cancellations, or any circumstances beyond Canon’s reasonable control.

Canon’s decision regarding the selection of the Grand Winner and the awarding of the Grand Prize shall be final and binding.

6.4. General Prize Terms
a) Prizes are non-transferable, non-exchangeable, and no cash or credit alternatives will be substituted for the prize on offer.
b) In the event that the prize offered is unavailable due to circumstances beyond our control, Canon reserves the right to offer an alternative prize of equal or greater value.
c) All taxes, duties, or other charges applicable to the receipt or use of a prize shall be the sole responsibility of the recipient. If the Participants are taxpayers in the country of residence and they receive the Prize specified in clause 6.1. and 6.2. of this Terms and Conditions, it may be necessary to pay taxes under a local legislation.
d) By accepting this Terms and Conditions the Participants agree to pay all necessary taxes caused as a result of receiving - winning the Prizes.
e) Canon is not responsible for any improper and (or) illegal actions of the participants related to tax and any other laws.
f) Canon shall not be liable for any lost, stolen, expired, or damaged vouchers and shall not provide replacements under any circumstances.
g) Canon’s decisions regarding prize allocation and redemption shall be final and binding.
h) Canon will notify the winner via the email address provided on entry within 5 working days of the winner selection and the winner will be required to respond to confirm eligibility and acceptance of the Prize, within 10 calendar days of initial contact. If the winner does not respond to the initial contact within 10 calendar days Canon reserves the right to disqualify the winner. If the winner is disqualified Canon reserves the right to award the prize to a reserve winner selected in the same manner. The reserve winner may have less time to respond.
i) Canon reserves the right to publish the name and town and county of the winner or to publicize any prize giving presentation after the date of the competition. If the winner does not wish such details to be published, they must advise Canon at time of being notified that they have won.
j) The Category Winners' Prizes will be posted to the winner of each respective category within 30 calendar days after the winner is announced. In the unlikely event that a Prize doesn’t arrive within 30 calendar days after the winner is announced, the winner will have a further 28 calendar days to inform Canon by emailing [canonacademy@canon.at]. If the winner does not inform Canon within this time frame, Canon will reserve the right to not reissue the prize or limit its value at their sole discretion. Prizes shall only be delivered to the countries specified in Clause 1.2 of these Terms and Conditions.
k) The Finalists' Prizes shall be distributed to the selected Finalists in each respective category within thirty (30) calendar days following the official announcement of the winners. In the event that a Finalist does not receive their Prize within the aforementioned thirty (30) calendar days, the Finalist shall have an additional twenty-eight (28) calendar days to notify Canon by sending an email to [canonacademy@canon.at]. If the Finalist fails to notify Canon within this additional twenty-eight (28) calendar day period, Canon reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to: decline reissuing the Prize; or limit the value of the Prize in accordance with Canon’s internal policies.
l) Any rejected or unclaimed prize may be awarded to other entrants at the absolute and sole discretion of Canon.
m) In the event that the competition is not capable of running as planned for reasons including but not limited to tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, dishonesty, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Canon which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this competition, Canon reserves the right to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process or does not comply with these Terms & Conditions and to cancel, modify or suspend the competition or invalidate any affected entries.
n) No responsibility can be taken for entries which are lost, delayed, corrupted, damaged, misdirected or incomplete or which cannot be delivered for any technical, delivery or other reason. Proof of sending will not be accepted as proof of receipt. Canon Group does not guarantee continuous or secure access to the entry page.

7. WINNER SELECTION

7.1. All valid entries received during the Entry Period (subject to moderation) will be independently judged by a panel of judges. There will be a total of two (2) rounds of judging to shortlist fifteen (15) finalists based on the competition criteria as detailed in Clause 3. From the fifteen (15) finalists, the judging panel will select three (3) Category Winners (one Category winner at each respective Competition Category) and one (1) overall Grand Prize Winner, all to be announced on the Canon website pages of the Competition.

7.2. The Competition Finalists, Category Winners and Grand Prize Winner will be selected between 1st of July 2025 and 31st of August 2025 inclusive.

8. PERSONAL DATA

8.1. Canon CEE GmbH, Am Europlatz 2, 1120 Vienna, Austria, is the Data Controller in respect of any personal data supplied by Participants. The personal data provided is held securely and may be transferred on a secure server outside the country of the data subject’ domiciles. The personal data collected from Participants is subject to the Canon Consumer Privacy Policy https://myid.canon/canonid/#/policy.

8.2. Any and all personal data supplied for the running of this competition will be used solely for the purpose of this competition and, if applicable, for marketing purposes by the Canon Group and/or by any agent appointed by it to assist with running the competition on behalf of Canon and will not be disclosed to a third party for any other purpose unless your positive consent has been obtained.

9. DISCLAIMER

9.1. Canon reserves the right to refuse to honor any entry or to recover the full value of any prize if it considers there has been an abuse or breach of the terms and conditions of this competition.

9.2. Canon together with any associated agencies and companies will not be liable for any loss (including, without limitation, indirect, special or consequential loss or loss of profits), expense or damage which is suffered or sustained (whether or not arising from any person’s negligence) in connection with this competition or accepting or using the Prize, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law. Nothing will exclude the Canon Group’s liability for death or personal injury as a result of its negligence.

9.3. In the event of a dispute over interpretation or implementation of the rules on any matter related to the competition, the decision of the Directors of Canon is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

9.4. If any part of these conditions is found by a court of competent jurisdiction or other competent authority to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable, then such part shall be severed from the remainder of these conditions, which shall continue to be valid to the fullest extent permitted by law.

9.5. Entries must be made directly by the individual entering the competition. Bulk entries from trade, consumer groups or third parties will not be accepted. Incomplete or illegible entries and entries submitted by macros or other automated means together with entries which do not satisfy the requirements of these Terms & Conditions in full will be disqualified and will be not be counted. If it becomes apparent that a Participant is using a computer(s) to circumvent this condition by, for example, the use of ‘script’, ‘brute force’, masking their identity by manipulating IP addresses, using identities other than their own or any other automated means in order to increase that Participant’s entries into the competition in a way that is not consistent with the rules of the competition, that Participant’s entries will be disqualified and any prize awarded will be void.

9.6. Participantls are not permitted to enter using anonymous email services such as, but not limited to, GuerillaMail, Dispostable or Mailinator.

9.7. In the event of a discrepancy between these Terms & Conditions and the details in any promotional material, the details in the Terms & Conditions will prevail.

10. JURISDICTION

As you are a participating consumer, laws of your country of residence will apply to this competition, and You may be entitled to bring court proceedings in your own language and in your local courts. A local consumer advice organization will be able to advise you on your rights. These Terms do not restrict any statutory rights that may be applicable.
