What is Canon’s role in Sheetfed inkjet printing?
Bringing innovation to the printing industry is a key part of Canon's mission. We continue to advance inkjet technology, develop leading-edge workflow solutions, support customers in printing the widest range of application choices and exceed the industry standard for proactive service and professional support – all to help our customers grow their businesses.
In 2008, Canon was the first to enter the digital web-fed inkjet market with the launch of the JetStream, helping our customers pioneer the benefits of high-speed digital inkjet printing. Based on our experience in web-fed inkjet, combined with our long experience in digital sheetfed toner printing, we began exploring the challenging digital sheetfed inkjet market with the development of sheetfed inkjet presses.
In 2015, Canon was the first to succeed with an all-around sheetfed inkjet press for commercial printers – the varioPRINT i-series consisting of the varioPRINT i200 and i300. In 2020, we introduced the varioPRINT iX-series, consisting of the varioPRINT iX3200 and iX2100. These new presses have revolutionised the commercial printing experience and are now a new market standard for high-quality, highly efficient commercial digital printing. -

Canon uses water-based polymer pigment ink in its sheetfed inkjet presses. Why?
The inks used in the Canon sheetfed inkjet presses are proprietary, developed and manufactured in-house at Canon. They are key to the media versatility of the system. The water-based polymer pigment inks provide:
- Colour intensity and stability
- Excellent interaction with media, for a flat and robust end result
- Stable jetting behaviour
- A low environmental impact:
- No hazardous disposables
- Odourless prints
- Excellent deinking capabilities
-
Canon uses ColorGrip conditioning liquid. Why?
Canon’s sheetfed inkjet presses use ColorGrip, a conditioning liquid that delivers even more flexibility in media choice. ColorGrip instantly immobilises the pigments in the ink after printing, resulting in high print quality for both uncoated paper and offset coated paper.
